The Adventures of Kimberlite: In My Own Shoes, is one of a series of Kimberlite adventures created by Charmane Echols. The native of West Virginia and life-long educator in Michigan, created the beautifully illustrated (Laurie H. Brady) children’s book as a flash back into her own childhood. Her father, like Kimberlite’s, was a coal miner. Charmane’s father, however, moved his family to Michigan for a better life where he and his children earned college degrees.

Charmane uses the magical elements of storytelling to inspire youth to believe in themselves and find their own path in life. In addition to In My Own Shoes, Charmane created a sequel, The Adventures of Kimberlite: A Glorious Shining Star, where Kimberlite and her friends travel to outer space to discover the importance of positive thinking and supporting one another.
